Jennifer Lawrence to make last Mystique appearance in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique 20th Century Fox

Jennifer Lawrence will be done with the "Hunger Games" once "Mockingjay Part 2" is released on Nov. 20, and now she has confirmed that she will also be done with the "X-Men" franchise after "X-Men: Apocalypse."

During an MTV News interview at the premiere for her film "Serena," Lawrence confirmed with no hesitation that it would be the end of her run in the franchise.

"It is my last one, actually," was all she said with no elaboration or explanation.

It comes as no surprise as "X-Men: Apocalypse" seems most likely to serve as an end of a trilogy started by "X-Men: First Class."

Screen writer Simon Kinberg stated in an interview with Yahoo! Movies, "The thrust of 'Apocalypse' is really to complete the trilogy we began with 'First Class' – to complete the stories of young Raven, young Hank, younger Charles and Erik."

There has been no word from 20th Century Fox if they still have plans of featuring Lawrence's Mystique in future films. There have been rumors of the studios planning a spin-off film based entirely on Mystique, but it appears that those plans will no longer push through if Lawrence is no longer involved.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" may in fact serve as a transition film as it introduces new versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler, played by Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, and Kodi Smith-McPhee, respectively.

While there have been no announcements regarding core "X-Men" films after "Apocalypse," it is reasonable to assume that the younger versions of Cyclops and the gang will take over as the main characters.

20th Century Fox still has plans for a new "Wolverine" film which Sir Ian McKellan is rumored to star in alongside Hugh Jackman in the title role, a planned "Gambit" film starring Channing Tatum, and Ryan Reynolds' "Deadpool" which is scheduled for a February 2016 release.
