'X-Men: Apocalypse' spoilers: William Stryker's involvement revealed

At the tail-end of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) disguised herself as William Stryker (Josh Helman) and took Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) for the Weapon X program. According to the latest issue of Empire Magazine (via Comic Book Movie), it appears that Stryker will have a role to play in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

According to the report, one scene involving Stryker has been detailed and it gives an intriguing insight into what may occur in the film. The report states that the scene involves Stryker capturing Mystique, Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne).

It is further explained that the four were captured after a raid on the X-Mansion, Professor Xavier's (James McAvoy) school for mutants, and now Stryker is asking for any information regarding the whereabouts of Magneto (Michael Fassbender). It is not explained why Stryker needs Magneto.

This scene is alluded to in the trailers where Xavier states that he pities anyone who would dare attack his school populated by powerful mutants.

However, a report from Collider points out that by the timeline set by "Days of Future Past," Stryker will already have Wolverine under the Weapon X program in "Apocalypse," which means the character could appear in a cameo role, perhaps showing the scene where Wolverine breaks out of the facility, allowing the four prisoners to also escape.

Director Bryan Singer did confirm that Wolverine is not coming back in the film as a main character, stating "As a central character, he didn't fit into this particular story."

Singer's statements only confirm Wolverine is not a main character but it doesn't rule out a possible cameo. Actor Hugh Jackman is still playing the character for the time being, which makes it even more possible, although Jackman did confirm that the third solo "Wolverine" film will be his last time portraying the iconic mutant.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" opens in theaters this May 27.
