"X-Men: Days of Future Past" director Bryan Singer is set to helm another mutant-centered movie, as reported by Deadline.  He will direct the eighth installment of the X-Men franchise, "X-Men: Apocalypse," and fans can expect it to be even bigger than its predecessors.

In an earlier interview with Hero Complex, Simon Kinberg, the writer-producer for the X-Men movies, said that fans can expect mass destruction and disaster on a global scale in the upcoming film. He also said that it will be a challenge, considering how huge the last X-Men movie was.

He told the publication, "One of the challenges of following up 'Days of Future Past' is that the movie is so big in scale and scope and stakes, how do you tell the next one that doesn't feel like a step backward? The 'Apocalypse' story, even for people that don't know the comics, just from the title the stakes are pretty clear."

While Apocalypse could mean the wide-scale destruction that the filmmakers are planning to put in the movie, it could also mean the supervillain who was born 5,000 years ago, believed to be the first person on Earth to be born with the X-gene.

"We're going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants - the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago..." Singer said in an interview with Total Film early this year, as quoted by Comic Book Movie.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is believed to be a sequel of "X-Men: First Class," to be set in the 80s, and will show characters when they were younger (older?).

"I call these movies in-between-quels. It's a mind-[frick] sometimes in terms of where things fall in the timeline!" the director said.

Many would think that Singer is just the right person to face the challenge and take X-Men another step further. Aside from "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which earned $746 million worldwide, he also directed the first two X-Men films, "X-Men" and "X2."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be shown in theaters on May 27, 2016.
