Production for "X-Men: Apocalypse" just started last April 27 and director Bryan Singer has already let fans catch a few glimpses at some of the new characters. Jean Grey, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler have all been revealed via Instagram posts.
"Apocalypse" takes place in the mid-1980s, a decade following the events of "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The characters Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Cyclops have been recast since they should be in their teenage years during this era.
Sophie Turner of "Game of Thrones" fame will be portraying a young Jean Grey, originally portrayed by actress Famke Jenssen. Turner is seen wearing striped clothing and tight "mommy jeans" that were popular in the 80's.
Accompanying her in the photo posted by Singer is Lana Condor who plays the mutant Jubilee. Jubilee is seen sporting a bright yellow jacket that instantly fits into the period they are portraying. Set photos also reveal that Jubilee will be wearing her iconic pink 80's-sunglasses.
Kodi Smith-McPhee also posted via Instagram the first official look at his take of a young Kurt Wagner a.k.a. Nightcrawler, previously played by Alan Cumming in "X2: X-Men United." The photo reveals that they will retain the same physical look that Cumming had, albeit with a 1980's flair with regard to Nightcrawler's clothes and hairstyle.
Set photos have also given the fans glimpses of Tye Sheridan as a younger Cyclops but there has not been an official photo of the character or of Alexandra Shipp as a young Storm. Cyclops and Storm were previously portrayed by James Marsden and Halle Berry, respectively.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will focus primarily on Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, as he re-opens his school for mutants. Oscar Isaac will portray the main villain of the film, the titular mutant Apocalypse.
As reported by Screen Rant, this may be the last "X-Men" film for James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender as it may lead into a new trilogy to be led by Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters nationwide on May 16, 2016.
