WWE news: Rusev to return with boots?

Rusev Wikipedia

Rusev is deemed out of commission as we speak and chances are he will continue to be on the sidelines until his broken foot (or ankle) fully heals.

To recall, Rusev was supposed to be part of that 6-man match for the Intercontinental Title at WWE Extreme Rules but an untimely injury forced Rusev out from getting a chance at the title. It would have been Rusev's second WWE title had he participated and won.

He was replaced by Mark Henry in the PPV card which saw Ryback become the new Intercontinental champion. Ironically, it was against Ryback where Rusev suffered his foot injury. Could this be a new storyline the WWE creative team can seriously consider? Possible.

But before moving forward, the focus right now is on Rusev. The WWE has yet to issue an official statement on the injury of the Bulgarian Brute. Is it a broken foot or a severely damaged ankle? For now there is no official word yet.

Why is that important? Well for one, it could serve as a gauge on how long Rusev will really be out. He has still been appearing on WWE shows but on crutches so that could either be good or bad for WWE fans.

Should he return, he will no longer wrestle bare footed. It Is believed that Rusev will return wearing boots, a precautionary measure aimed at his injured feet which could become a recurring issue for the Russian.

While the WWE has seen wrestlers compete bare footed before (think Yokozuna and Jimmy Superfly Snuka), the fact remains that doing so provides risks as well.

Considering his body weight paired with his wrestling style, it will not be surprising if Rusev suffered a similar injury in the future.

Hence, the boots could act as added support though the new look may be something that fans will get to used to. At the end of the day, it will not be about style but a matter of preventive maintenance especially once Rusev is given the green light to spring back into WWE action.
