Winning over people who doubt the Bible's accuracy

The Bible is not just a book. It is the written word of God that points to the Person and work of Jesus Christ. It is by reading God's Word that we come to know the God that we serve and the hope that He brings through His grace.

But the truth is that not everyone will agree with that idea. To many people, the Bible is nothing but a book and an outdated one at that. It can be hard to convince people to believe that there is more to the Bible than just a collection of old stories, poems, prophecies and epistles. There is a Spirit behind it that brings forth power and transformation.

The Bible is foundational to our faith. It contains every lesson that we need to learn and every truth that liberates, reconciles and empowers us. If the Bible weren't true, then we'd be living on very shaky ground. But the good news is that the Bible is very much true, and it has been validated over and over again through archeological, literary and historical evidences.

How do you convince someone that the Bible is accurate and that it is alive and active like a double-edged sword? Well, off the bat, it's not as simple as it sounds. I don't think I have ever heard someone convince a Bible skeptic of its reliability by simply debating about it. Here are a few tips to win people over for the Bible and the faith that it professes.

Live out the Bible

Nothing is better proof than results. When people see in us the change and power that comes not only through what the Bible claims but also through what the Bible professes, it becomes easier to compel people to believe the Bible. This can only be done through a revelation of Jesus Christ who brings His grace and love through us.

Make relationship the base

If people don't know you, chances are they won't believe a word you say. That's because we are wired to value relationship above all else. It's hard having a controlled and fruitful conversation with someone you don't know, so don't expect to have any great results from a social media battle of words with someone you hardly know.

Do your research

Nothing could be more discrediting than a messenger carrying the wrong message. What does the Bible refer to when it says what it says? Many times, sadly, a lot of believers take the Bible out of context and interpret it poorly. To be a proper messenger, one must know and research the message that the Bible relays. This involves a lot of time invested in learning and allowing the Holy Spirit to inspire us with the truth about God's Word.
