God is good. He is a good Father, the best there is. His plans for us are good (Jeremiah 29:11), His ways towards us are perfect (Psalm 18:30), and His thoughts toward us are countless (Psalm 139:17-18). His faithfulness towards us is unquestionable (2 Timothy 2:13), His kindness towards us abounding that it turns us away from sinning (Romans 2:4), His love for us so powerful and relentless we can never be separated from it (Romans 8:31-39).
Isn't He good towards us?
He created us with purpose (Genesis 1:26), thoughtfully preparing all that we will need for what He wants us to do (Ephesians 2:10). Sadly, we fell into sin and became separated from Him but that didn't stop Him from pursuing us: He made the way for us to be restored to Him – His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 59:1-2, 1:18-20, 53:6; John 3:16)
In His righteousness He can never tolerate our sins, but in His great love He wants us to be reconciled with Him (Habakkuk 1:13; 2 Corinthians 5:19). In His justice He desires to punish the very sins that earned us a well-deserved death but in His great love He did not want us to be separated from Him eternally (Romans 6:23). And so in His great mercy towards us He poured out His wrath upon Christ, so that by Him we can be forgiven (Isaiah 53:6; 1 John 2:2).
Isn't He good?
Great is the love that He had for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Great is the patience that He has shown towards us that while we were in our wicked ways He sent the propitiation by whom we can be made right in His sight (2 Corinthians 5:21). Great is the mercy by which He assures us of His promises: promises that allow us to live a Godly life (2 Peter 1:4), and that will never fall to the ground (Numbers 23:19).
Isn't He good?
The Lord loves all of us, in fact so great is His love for us that we who are in Christ are called His children (1 John 3:1), accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:6). We are raised with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenlies (Ephesians 2:6), We are co-heirs in Christ (Romans 8:17), blessed with all the spiritual blessings in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), and because of Christ we are blessed with the promises that were promised to Abraham (Galatians 3:29).
Isn't He good?
God wasn't content to merely create us. He gave us His Word which guides, instructs, and reminds us of His great plans for us (Psalm 119; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). His plans for us are not for our harm; rather they are for our good. He plans to give us hope and a future, and sustain us with His grace along the way as we go through life with Him (Jeremiah 29:11; 2 Corinthians 12:9).
Isn't He good?
He promises to meet our needs, defeat our enemies, accompany us in our down times, encourage us when we're weary, comfort us when we're hurting, heal us and bind us up when we're wounded, and give us the abundant life that only He alone can give (Psalm 23; John 10:10).
He is good.
So why grumble? Why complain? God, in His kindness and goodness, gives us no reason to complain, no reason to grumble. Are we stronger, wiser, and more capable than Him that we should grumble and complain about how He deals with us (1 Corinthians 1:25, 10:22)?
Does the clay grumble about the potter? Does the creature complain about the Creator? (Romans 9:19-21)
Friends, we have no reason to grumble in our hearts and complain with our mouths about how the Lord treats us. He is holy and good, and treats everybody according to His righteousness, kindness, mercy, and love. When we think about Him, we find nothing dark, nothing that we can point out negatively. (1 John 1:5; James 1:17)
He cannot tolerate grumbling and complaining because He isn't someone subject to our whims and whining. While He loves us and listens to our cries for His help, He has no room for our grumbling and complaining because His ways towards us are perfect as He is perfect.
The almighty God loves us, and that alone is enough reason for us to be still and know that He is God. (Psalm 46:10; Exodus 14:14; John 16:33)
