WEA Highlights Strengthening of Global Evangelical Community

In the largest assembly of European Evangelicals in history, World Evangelical Alliance member leaders learned of the new developments that are broadening the scope of the international network's service to the world.

|TOP|WEA International Director Geoff Tunnicliffe outlined the strategic projects and strengthened network of the alliance to the nearly 200 evangelical leaders who gathered in Tavira, Portugal for the four-day assembly themed "Gospel Relevance in Europe Today."

"We are continuing to network, resource and serve our members and the broader global evangelical community so they can be informed and empowered by the World Evangelical Alliance," said Tunnicliffe.

The European Evangelical Alliance, the European Evangelical Missions Alliance and Hope for Europe joined for the annual gathering this year with hopes of "mutual resourcing, equipping and envisioning," as stated by EEA General Secretary Gordon Showell-Rogers.

Tunnicliffe, who stepped up as WEA's International Director in May 2005, highlighted the increasing communications both within the alliance and outside to ecumenical and governmental groups, including the United Nations.

"We are increasing external and internal communications, clarifying the role of our alliances, commissions, affiliates and associates, and engaging in strategic global conversations and initiatives," he said.

The WEA participated in the interfaith fight against global poverty during the 60th session of the World Summit in September where ecumenical religious leaders appealed to the United Nations to commit to accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals.

With the global network making strides in strengthening the evangelical community, Tunnicliffe acknowledged the power of prayer among the member leaders as he looked forward to greater cooperation for the future.

"I know many of you have been praying for the WEA, and we've felt those prayers," he said. "God has been answering those prayers and giving us beyond what we've even asked."
