True friends will give you the hard, painful truth, says Ben Seewald

The husband of Jessa Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting, Ben Seewald strongly believes that only true friends have the heart and courage to tell people the hard, painful truth.

On his Facebook page, Seewald shared the quote: "A best friend won't agree with you to make you happy. If anything, they'll say what needs to be said, no matter if you want to hear it or not."

Seewald considers this "true love" from a "true friend."

Most Christians who speak the truth often get persecuted for it, and that is why Seewald reminded them what Jesus Christ himself went through.  Another photo showedJesus speaking to his disciples and quoting his words: "If the world hates you, remember it hated me first."

It followed with a line that said, "Until I modernised to get with the times and changed all my teachings so they would be easier to follow. Then everyone pretty much liked me again." It came with the hashtag #thingsJesusneversaid.

When Seewald later shared that all men are sinners and that God will one day judge the earth, he admitted others might take offense at his words.

But he reasoned that he's only giving tough love because it would be wrong of Him not to spread God's Word.

"I do not speak a hard truth because I think it will bring me popularity or the praise of men," he explained. "I know it will not. I say it because I love and care about you. Your true friend is the one who tells you the most truth, even if it hurts him in doing so. It would be cruel of me to hide the truth that there is a coming judgment day."
