'Transformers 5' update: Michael Bay undecided whether or not to direct

The writers' meeting involving Akiva Goldsman, Robert Kirkman, and other renowned scribes have reached a result. According to a report from Deadline: "Transformers 5" now has a direction to go with and there will also be an animated film focused on Cybertron. However, director Michael Bay has given an update and exclaimed he has not yet decided whether or not he will helm the fifth live-action film.

The animated feature will be written by "Ant-Man" writers Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer although no director has yet been attached. The fifth live-action film now has a "blueprint" for its story and characters, which involve Mark Wahlberg returning as the lead, although no script and director has been attached either.

"No, it's not official. I have not committed to any idea as of yet. Just met with Steven and we are discussing," reads Bay's official post on Twitter.

This indicates that although he has not yet signed on, he is still open to either directing the film or assisting producer Steven Spielberg in choosing an appropriate successor.

This won't be the first time Bay has shown signs of declining to work on the films. He initially doubted he would be directing "Transformers: Age of Extinction" but ended up helming the project after all, particularly after being given the resources to work on one of his passion projects, "Pain and Gain."

Either way, "Transformers 5" is reportedly slated to start production in June next year with or without Bay at the helm. If this pushes through, then it is likely the film wil be released in summer 2017.

As previously reported, the next "Transformers" film starring Mark Wahlberg might have two storylines, with one plotline occuring on Earth and the other involving Optimus Prime's quest to fight Unicron and the Quintessons out in space. However, there have been no confirmations that this dual storyline is indeed what the film will follow through with.
