"Transformers: Age of Extinction" ended with Optimus Prime heading off to space to meet the Quintessons, the creators of the Transformers, and to get some answers regarding the invasions on Earth. However, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura stated last year that the film will be set on Earth. Apparently, that would be scrapped if some of the new rumors are true.
IBTimes reported that the writing team, which includes "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman and Marvel Studios-veteran Akiva Goldsman, are aiming for something in the veins of "Star Wars" as their primary inspiration for the next film. This hints that there will be a big portion of the film taking place outside of Earth.
Aiding Optimus Prime in his battle against the Quintessons and the Decepticons are a few new Autobots. According to a report from Design and Trend, fan-favorite Ultra Magnus will be in the film and is said to have a history with series' villain Megatron/ Galvatron.
Ultra Magnus was always depicted as Optimus Prime's second-in-command. From the toys to the cartoon series and comic books, Ultra Magnus was always the one in charge whenever Optimus Prime wasn't around. In the 1986 animated movie, however, Ultra Magnus died and the Matrix of Leadership passed on to Hot Rod, who became Rodimus Prime.
There are reports that Paramount Pictures plans on starting a "Transformers" shared universe and it is possible that some of the characters in "Transformers 5" may get their own spin-offs after being introduced in the main film. One such spin-off is an all-animated film depicting the war on Cybertron between Optimus Prime and Megatron.
At the time of writing it is speculated that Michael Bay will return to direct the fifth film with Mark Wahlberg returning as the main lead. Rumors have been reported that Megan Fox may return as well. Former lead Shia LaBeouf is not slated to make a comeback as Sam Witwicky.
