"The Walking Dead" might have been on for eight seasons already, but a substantial number of fans remain hooked. Showrunners behind the post-apocalyptic series need to think of ways to stretch it into many seasons, as hinted on by an AMC exec recently.
Repopulation might probably be a good idea for the show, where walkers take the majority of the world. Andrew Lincoln, who plays the show's lead Rick Grimes, in a panel interview at a Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta teased that a baby was not a bad idea at all. Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, also hinted that the idea was not far-fetched, considering the number of actual people in "The Walking Dead" world.
AMC chief executive officer Josh Sapan also hinted recently at the fate of "The Walking Dead," discreetly revealing that the show could run for how many years despite the low ratings and the rough start of the season 8. With this in mind, a baby along the way could help broaden and widen the storyline, which could well be received by fans. A baby in the show could also give light to Michonne's softer side.
Lincoln was receptive to the idea and added that repopulating was a key to civilization. But, Gurira disclaimed that while she loved the thought, she could not say the same for her character. "I'm sure [Michonne would] have to think about that a little. She likes being able to, you know, move," she said. Lincoln reassured the audience that baby bump would still be rocked by the rebel chic and even compared her to an "apocalyptic Demi Moore."
Rick and Michonne's romance, dubbed as "Richonne," had blossomed unexpectedly in the past seasons. It was welcomed by fans, as Rick's wife and the mother of Carl (Chandler Riggs), Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), had long been eaten up by a walker when Rick's group was still staying in the prison.
"The Walking Dead" season 8 airs every Sunday, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
