It has been confirmed that "The Purge 3" is being planned and developed following the success of the previous movies in "The Purge" lineup.

With a combined budget of $12 million for the first two films, "The Purge" and "The Purge: Anarchy" have already raked in over $200 million in the worldwide box office. It is, therefore, not that surprising that a third installment is underway.  Director James DeMonaco will still take over the directorial duties for "The Purge 3."

"I never imagined that 'The Purge' would become the phenomenon it has become, and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building 'The Purge' into a worldwide franchise," DeMonaco said in an interview with Deadline.

According to Blumhouse Production CEO Jason Blum, he prefers that the third film put forward a backstory for the actual purge, and highlight the first-ever purge.

"We have a lot of ideas for the third movie," Blum said.

The production chief then opened up about telling a story that focuses on the Revolutionaries. Because the first purge supposedly happened after five years and the second purge took place after six years, Blum said he would prefer to look into the very first purge.

"The Purge 3" may focus on Carmello, portrayed by Michael K. Williams, as the lead character.

"That's the seed that was purposefully planted," DeMonaco commented on the rumors relating to Carmello as the main character. "I don't know if we'll be lucky enough to do it, but I purposefully planted him in there, and I made sure I got Michael K. Williams who I love... all very purposeful."

The upcoming "The Purge 3" has been speculated to premiere in summer of 2015 as the first movie was unveiled in June 7, 2013 while the second film was shown last July 18, 2014.
