After the infamous low-speed white Bronco car chase was re-enacted in the second episode of "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story," the former NFL star-turned-murder suspect will go to trial in episode 3 of FX's newest true-crime anthology series.
In the episode titled "The Dream Team," O.J. Simpson's (Cuba Gooding Jr.) has been arrested after his highly publicized police chase. The high-profile case will start rolling as prosecutor Marcia Clark (Sarah Paulson) announced that the sports celebrity "has been charged" with murder for the death of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. In this episode, the prosecutor will begin to build her team to keep Simpson behind bars.
To defend Simpson, his own dream team will also be created. According to the synopsis for the episode, Robert Shapiro (John Travolta) will seek help from criminal lawyer F. Lee Bailey (Nathan Lane) to create a provocative strategy to get Simpson out of jail.
Shapiro must also convince his client to hire the renowned defense and criminal lawyer Johnnie Cochran (Courtney B. Vance) to join his unbeatable legal team. However, it was earlier revealed in the series that Cochran was not keen on taking the case. "I like to win. [Simpson's] case is a loser," the influential lawyer said when the press asked him if he would take Simpson's case during the pilot episode.
Meanwhile, Variety reported that "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" had a record-breaking start.
According to the report, the pilot episode of the true-crime anthology drama garnered an average of 8.3 million viewers, including 4.2 million adults aged 18 to 49.
The report mentioned that, comparing to other series that premiered on FX under the adult 18 to 49 demographic, "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" already surpassed the numbers set by "The Shield" by 40 percent and "American Horror Story" by 50 percent.
"The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" will air its next episode on Tuesday, Feb. 16, on FX.
