'Supergirl' spoilers: Kara and Cat to encounter new problems in episode 8

Melissa Benoist as Supergirl CBS Official

After the startling discovery in the previous episode, Kara (Melissa Benoit) faces a highly emotional battle in the upcoming midseason finale of "Supergirl" on CBS.

Monday night's episode of the TV adaptation of the DC Comics' popular character revealed the real identity of the DEO boss Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) when he admitted to Kara's sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) that he is actually the alien named J'onn J'onnzz. This means that the DEO boss will be more lenient toward Alex in the second half of the season.

Based on the synopsis for "Supergirl" episode 8, Kara will have an ugly battle with Astra (Laura Benanti), her biological mother's twin sister. Astra got on Kara's nerve when she told her stories that offends her memory of her mother.

The trailer shows Kara warning Alex and Henshow that her evil aunt is back to spread darkness all over National City. Since her super-human powers already returned in the previous episode, Kara must muster enough strength in order to defeat Astra.

Meanwhile, Kara's boss Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) will also find herself in big trouble at the CatCo Worldwide Media because of a cybercrime.

In the episode, a hacker manages to get access to Cat's personal email account. The hacker opted to destroy Cat's career by revealing several private and damaging emails, which could eventually threaten her position as the CEO of her own company. Will this episode show the end of Cat's glamorous career in publication?

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

"Kara goes toe-to-toe with Astra when her aunt challenges Kara's beliefs about her mother. Also, Cat is threatened with being removed as the CEO of CatCo after a hacker exposes her private and damaging emails,"

"Supergirl" episode 8 airs Monday, Dec. 14, on NBC.
