'Street Fighter 5' DLC, game news: Game to have only one version, says Capcom

Game company Capcom has made a habit of re-releasing the same game with a different name and slightly new content while charging players full price for something that they, technically, already own. "Street Fighter IV," for instance, had a base game which was followed by "Super Street Fighter IV," "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition," and finally "Ultra Street Fighter IV." Each successive game introduced a few new characters and slight changes to the core mechanics. 

According to a new report from Gamespot, the company is not going to do this for "Street Fighter V" and confirms that the first version of the game is the last version as well. Instead, the company will offer DLC unlockables similar to how other fighting games are handling additional content these days. "Mortal Kombat X," for example, lets gamers buy the base game and later pay real money to download newer characters when they become available. 

According to the report, gamers of "Street Fighter V" won't even have to shell out more real cash if they don't want to. The game will feature two types of currency: Zenny and Fight Money. Zenny is purchased with real cash and gamers can use this to quickly unlock new characters and other DLC content. Fight Money is earned in-game, allowing gamers to unlock the same DLC content but through gameplay instead of spending more money.

Capcom's official statement explains that this method ensures that gamers get new content without having to pay for new bundle packs and that it gives players a sense of achievement because they are rewarded the more they play the game. Allowing real money to be used is also allowed because it is a quicker option for people with less time for grinding. 

"Street Fighter V" is scheduled to be released for PC and PS4 in early 2016.
