'Star Citizen' Alpha 2.1 version now out

 Cloud Imperium Games

While the full version of "Star Citizen" might have been delayed somewhat, the team behind the game seems to be making up for it with continuous updates for its test versions. Fresh from launching the Alpha 2.0 last month, the next update, Alpha 2.1, has just gone live.

According to a post on the developer's website, the new Alpha 2.1 version is currently available in the title's Live server, accessible via the "Star Citizen" launcher. Although the prior Alpha 2.0 edition is still fresh from release (launched last December), the new Alpha version added more bug fixes, gameplay improvements, and overall changes to the game. The announcement added that the major changes for the new 2.1 version include the significant improvement in player experience, plus the new version being much more stable than the previous one.

Meanwhile, according to MNR Daily, while most alpha players would not have noticed that changes, clearly visible on the new patch is the addition of new items such as ships and weapons. The new Alpha 2.1 update unlocked the Aegis Vanguard Warden and MISC Freelancer, two new flying ships in the Crusader. In addition, developer Cloud Imperium Games announced that another warship, the Aegis Sabre, is now hangar-ready. While technically still not flyable, players can already check out the upcoming fighter.

A number of weapons also got an upgrade in the new patch. Aside from improvements to the existing weapons inventory, the new Alpha 2.1 update also unlocked a new addition. Starting this new live version, players can take out enemies using the new Apocalypse Arms Revenant of the ballistic Gatling gun class. The new size-4 weapon can be mounted on the Vanguard and Constellation as is, or with an adaptive mount, on the Hornet and Cutlass ships.

Meanwhile, a release date for the full version of the game has yet to be announced, as the funding campaign for "Star Citizen" already passed its $100 million mark.
