'Revenge' season 4 finale discussed by showrunner

Revenge ABC

"Revenge" is nearing its season 4 finale, set to air tonight, and showrunner Sunil Nayar promised fans a "bittersweet" end to the season. In many ways, Nayar confirmed that this is the show's way of saying good bye to its viewers as much as it is to its characters.

"It has been very bittersweet because we were saying goodbye to these characters — and actors — that we've spent so much time with," Nayar stated in a report from People magazine. "And just like the characters are trying to leave behind the people and plots that had occupied their every waking moments for five years, so was the cast and crew."

According to the interview, Nayar and the rest of the crew behind the series designed the season 4 finale as an end to the story people have been following for the past four years. While it is not yet been confirmed as the end of the series, the finale will be an end to the "Daniel" storyline. Nayar even refered to the second half of season 4 as the "After Daniel" era.

Nayar also promised that the finale will conclude every character's major plot arc, with some reaching a happy ending while othes may not, but all of the resolutions will be "satisfying."

One of the biggest surprises for the finale is the return of Charlotte, played by Christ B. Allen. Half-sister to Emily VanCamp's Emily Thorne, she will be leaving rehab to deliver one crucial piece of information that will turn the story on its head.

The IBTimes speculates that Charlotte's message may be the factor leading up to the finale's cliffhanger and it could be the driving force for whatever new story arc the showrunners have in mind, in case the series gets renewed for a fifth season. This is no longer the case, however, as ABC has officially cancelled the series.

"Revenge" season 4 episode 23, "Two Graves," is scheduled to air tonight, May 10.
