'Reign' season 3 spoilers, plot: No more Nostradamus

Those who loved Nostradamus in "Reign" are in for some bad news. The character won't be showing up in season 3 as much as he did in season 2. Showrunner Laurie McCarthy shared the details with Entertainment Weekly

"He will be in the series intermittently, but he's still really pissed at Catherine, so I don't think he really feels a great desire to be under her thumb again," she explained, calling Nostradamus "a visitor to court."

As per Carter Matt, Nostradamus' presence won't be a necessity in season 3, at least story-wise. With Mary, Catherine and Queen Elizabeth all leading grand storylines and schemes in the new season, it was inevitable that the character's presence would be stripped.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly also made mention of a statement made by actress Rachel Skarsten, who plays Elizabeth of England, regarding a "surprise return" of someone to the French court. While no detail was revealed on who that person might be, the publication assured it won't be Conde.

Skarsten's Queen Elizabeth will be a very busy lady in season 3. Not only will she be solidifying her alliance with Catherine de Medici, played by Megan Follows, she will also be involved in a love triangle involving Robert Dudley and his wife.

Dudley's wife surely won't make things easy for the queen, especially in the midst of her other sinister plans. And as though this isn't insane enough, season 3 also adds new characters to the fold, one of which is William, a reliable royal advisor to be portrayed by Tom Everett Scott.

Also, it was already announced that Mary's mother Marie de Guise, who is played by Amy Brenneman, will be back. The last time fans saw the character, she was on the verge of dying and her relationship with her daughter wasn't at all the greatest. But in "Reign" season 3, she will be Mary's pillar although Marie's insistence to return to Scotland suggests she does not want that responsibility.

"Reign" season 3 premieres Oct. 9.
