'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date: Game already in development

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar

A Reddit post a few months ago by a supposed former Rockstar employee alleged that "Red Dead Redemption 2" may be already in development. That rumor has spread even further now that the CV of senior graphics engineer Doron Feinstein (Rockstar New England) indicates he is working on "the next version of a famous IP."

According to a report from GameRant, "Red Dead Redemption 2" is the most logical choice, although Rockstar has not made any official statement regarding a new entry in the franchise. The report cites that the "famous IP" in development might not be "Bully 2" as the game has received negative feedback from the public, particularly for its portrayal of violence involving students.

While the CV is the only evidence thus far that a new game is in development, fans speculate that "Red Dead Redemption 2" would be the only IP that the company could be working on given that a different department is already busy working on "Grand Theft Auto Online" and there has been little demand for a new "Max Payne" title.

The CV also indicates that Doron Feinstein did work on "Grand Theft Auto V" and "Max Payne 3," indicating that his skills would be used for a similar game. The only franchise IP similar to either of these that has not seen a new entry in some time is the "Red Dead Redemption" series, which began with "Red Dead Revolver" and "Red Dead Redemption."

GameRant does point out that even if the game in development is indeed "Red Dead Redemption 2," it is likely that it won't be released any time soon. These games can take years to see completion and it is likely that the title will not be released until late 2016 or 2017. Until then, gamers will still have "Grand Theft Auto V" and "GTA Online" to keep busy.
