From Wednesday, Nov. 15, to Monday, Nov. 20, PlayStation (PS) 4 owners could get the chance to play online for free with Sony's Open Multiplayer event.

For those whose PS Plus subscription had just expired or those who have not subscribed yet, this is an opportunity to try out online multiplayer games. A PS Plus subscription is usually required of PS4 players opting to play multiplayer, but with this event, any PS 4 owner can experience games for free. The event will go live from 5 am EST on Wednesday and will end the same time on Monday.

However, only the multiplayer mode of the PS Plus subscription will only be unlocked for the event. Other perks that come with an actual membership will still be closed off to non-subscribers. That said, all functions of playable games will be available.

For those doubting if a PS Plus subscription is worth it, the event could be the chance to gauge the offer. Payers and their friends can also use this opportunity to see which new multiplayer games to purchase. Some of the more popular games players could try are "Call of Duty: WWII," "Destiny 2," and "Gran Turismo Sport."

"All you need to do is get comfy, pick out your favourite games from your collection, pop them in your PS4 and you'll find all the online modes unlocked and ready to play!" PlayStation announced on its blog. Players who have enjoyed the free entrance and have decided to sign up for a PS Plus subscription may do so for just $60 a year.

The membership provides players free games every month, exclusive discounts on some games, and the online gaming experience. With this said, free games offered by Sony to PS Plus subscribers will not come free in the event.

There are now more than 26.4 million members with PS Plus subscriptions, and this event could attract more users to either sign up or renew their existing memberships.
