"Pokken Tournament" will be released internationally for the Nintendo Wii U in 2016, and as the game continues to develop, more of its roster have been revealed. In a recent video footage from Japan's NicoNico, one new character has been showcased and it is a form of Mewtwo that has never been seen before.

The new "Dark Mewtwo" appears to resemble Mewtwo X, one of Mewtwo's Mega Evolutions. However, the color scheme is much different and the additional visual touches make this form stand out from both his Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y versions.

Most of the video showcases this "Dark Mewtwo" fighting against Gengar, showcasing several of its new moves such as a more powerful version of Mewtwo's Psybeam and what appears to be a multi-range sphere attack.

According to a report from ComicBook.com, the video only showcases "Dark Mewtwo" in battle but it does not confirm that the character is going to be playable. It is entirely possible that this new Pokemon will simply be an enemy NPC similar to some bosses from the main "Tekken" series.

It is also being widely speculated whether or not this means a new "Pokemon" game starring "Dark Mewtwo" is currently in development. Fans speculate if this could be yet another teaser to the highly anticipated but never confirmed "Pokemon Z" or if a new spin-off is in the works.

The report points out that it is also possible this "Dark Mewtwo" will only be available for "Pokken Tournament" and may not make an appearance elsewhere in the "Pokemon" franchise. Given that Bandai Namco is developing the game, they may have the rights to the character which would prevent "Dark Mewtwo" from appearing in other "Pokemon" titles.

"Pokken Tournament" was launched in Japan arcades this past July and will see a worldwide console release in Q2 2016.
