"Persona 5" was initially set to release in 2015 but was later pushed to summer 2016. The official website has now been altered and now features a countdown that leads to May 5. According to a report from Kotaku, this indicates that Atlus will announce the game's official release date when the countdown is done.
However, there have been speculations that hackers may be responsible for putting the countdown and that the game will be released on July 8 in Japan, for both the PS3 and PS4. A report from EGM Now points out, however, that this is unlikely to be true and that the date may have been planned all along given that May 5 will be a play on the game's title, "Persona 5."
The game will launch for both the PS3 and the PS4 in Japan, but when the game is ported over to the West it will only be available for the PS4. As with previous entries, "Persona 5" will focus primarily on a group of high school students who go to class during the day and continue on with their supernatural adventures during the night.
"Persona 5" was promised to be released in summer this year, although this is widely speculated to only be for its Japanese launch, with a Western release to follow before the year is over.
As pointed out in a report from Polygon, the fifth game in the franchise will alter the series' traditions and routines by letting the main characters be phantom thieves and that instead of the protagonists hunting down the enemy they are the ones being chased.
Its story will reportedly focus on social reform as the main characters are travelling across the city to steal back stolen hearts, presumably similar to how Robin Hood steals money and gives it back to the poor. It is because of their actions to cause a change in society that they are being hunted down.
