Parents forgive bully responsible for daughters death

The parents of a girl who was bullied into jumping to her death say they have forgiven their daughter’s tormentors.

Hatice Can, 15, and her accomplice Kemi Ajose, 17, were convicted of manslaughter after subjecting Rosimeiri Boxall to two years of bullying that included being sprayed with deodorant in the eyes, punched, and slapped and ended with the 19-year-old jumping out of a third floor window.

As Rosimeiri lay dying on the ground below, Can shouted to her: "Serves you right, bitch."

Can was ordered to be detained for eight years while Ajose was ordered to be detained at a psychiatric hospital without limit of time.

Rosimeiri, known as Rosi, was adopted from a Brazilian slum and brought to Britain by vicar the Rev Simon Boxall and his wife Rachel.

He said last night that they had forgiven Can and Ajose.

“We continue to pray for those who are responsible for Rosi's death. We want them to know that we forgive them. That does not mean that what they did doesn't matter, of course it does.

“Forgiveness means that we refuse to be shackled by bitterness and our prayer is that forgiveness will allow the girls to be released from the burden of what they did.”

He added: “We still miss her greatly, but we do not for an instant regret the decision we took to adopt her. She has given us so many moments of pure joy and we are thankful for those times.”
