'Outlander' season 2 plot news: Caitriona Balfe discusses Claire's pregnancy

Outlander Starz

During the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, actor Sam Heughan mentioned that in "Outlander" season 2, his character Jamie and Caitriona Balfe's Claire will go through a lot of hurdles together. One of those hurdles is Claire's pregnancy which Balfe discussed about in a report from AccessHollywood.

Balfe stated that Claire's pregnancy is the most interesting aspect of her character in season 2 and that this is what she is most fascinated about moving forward. The actress explained that this pregnancy brings up a lot of thoughts and memories for Claire while providing a lot of "great material" for Balfe to work into her character.

Back in season 1, Claire didn't even believe that she could get pregnant but now she is, and Balfe stated that this sudden change deeply affects her character.

"It changes everything," said the actress. "When you kind of believe that something is impossible and then that changes ... it brings up a lot of stuff about her own family and her past."

She continued to explain that Claire's pregnancy brought up a lot of memories and issues regarding her family and her past. After all, the character lost her parents at a young age and never had a real mother figure to show her the ropes. This hurdle, in being a good mother, is something that Balfe stated will bring Claire and Jamie even closer togther.

Jamie isn't the only guy going to share some screen time with Claire as Balfe confirmed that there will be scenes taking place in the 1940's, which also brings back Frank, played by Tobias Menzies.

These might just be flashback sequences since the majority of "Outlander" season 2 will take place in the far past, but these quick scenes are a welcome change of pace and setting that even out the show's tone.

"Outlander" season 2 is set to premiere in 2016.
