'No Man's Sky' release date: game finally detailed at E3

 Hello Games

Fans of "No Man's Sky," one of the most-awaited titles to hit the gaming industry, were ecstatic to see some new teaser images of the much-hyped game ahead of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Observers were treated to the expansive and visually diverse design of the game, as publisher Sony and developer Hello Games showcased how the title will look like once it is released.

Building up the anticipation, Sony then presented "No Man's Sky" at this year's E3. The publisher divulged some key details about the upcoming galaxy simulator title.

Apparently, "No Man's Sky" will be slightly different from traditional building sim titles, or other games for that matter — it will not follow a progressive story featuring characters, cutscenes, or protagonist/ antagonist objectives. In terms of gameplay, the upcoming title can be likened to either "Minecraft" or "Terraria," games in which players define their own experiences based on their personal creations.

Although the massive multiplayer title lets players do what they want with the worlds they discover, "No Man's Sky" will feature a reaction-based story, wherein the player's actions and decisions will have consequences in the future. For example, killing too many creatures or rapidly depleting the natural resources on a discovered world will earn players a wanted level, and if the player becomes infamous enough, the planet's guardians called Sentinels will come in. In addition, picking a fight in space will have players clash with either the space police or space military, and those hard-headed enough will have to find their way out of a fight with both.

Developer Hello Games has also confirmed that instead of "No Man's Sky" being a timed exclusive as what had been reported before, the upcoming title will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PC on the same day. However, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray did not disclose a specific date on when fans can expect "No Man's Sky."
