Nicole Kidman on Emmys smooch with Alexander Skarsgard: It was a congratulatory kiss

After a lot of people were shocked at how Nicole Kidman managed to kiss "Tarzan" actor Alexander Skarsgard in front of her husband, the "Moulin Rouge" actress explained why it went down during the event.

The controversial smooch transpired during the Emmys last month, and it garnered mixed reactions from people. Skarsgard was walking down the aisle to receive his award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for "Big Little Lies" when, upon reaching the row where his series co-star was seated, Kidman approached and met him with a kiss on the lips, a seemingly congratulatory gesture. All this happened while singer Keith Urban, who was standing beside his wife, was looking.

The actress explained her Emmys actions during a guesting at "The Graham Norton Show" last Friday, Oct. 13. Kidman downplayed the controversy by saying, "I kissed my husband too." But the host of the show was quick to point out the distance of the country singer from her and Skarsgard. Graham Norton even noted how Urban looked like he was applauding the kiss.

Kidman afterward tried explaining that she "did everything with Alex," but was cut off when Norton said that everyone saw it. However, "The Others" star responded on a more serious note by praising her husband and saying that the lip-lock with Skarsgard was indeed a congratulatory move. "I've got an amazing, supportive, gorgeous husband who I love more than anything in the world," Kidman said.

Writer Debra Fisher took to Twitter to express her surprise of what had transpired, saying that no one is more shocked about the kiss than Skarsgard himself. Another fan also tweeted, "[N]icole kidman really kissed alexander skarsgard (her tv husband) on the mouth in front of her real husband lmao."
