Whitbread is launching a new compact version of Premier Inn to attract travellers who value "price, location and design over space".

The cosy 11.4sq metre rooms feature a desk that folds into a bed, luggage storage room under the bed, an ensuite bathroom with power shower, free wifi and a 40" smart screen TV.

'Hub by Premier Inn' will be rolling out in UK city centres, including London and Edinburgh next year.  The first hub is due to open on St Martin's Lane in London in summer 2014.

The new hotels will have their own app allowing customers to book and check-in online, pre-select their room temperature and light settings, and choose which TV or radio channel they want playing when they arrive.  They will also be able to stream content from their phone or tablet direct to their TV.

The hubs will include a deli-style restaurant with menus that feature locally-sourced produce.

There are plans for an initial five hubs in the next three years and around 40 nationwide by 2018.

Patrick Dempsey, Managing Director, Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants commented, "Premier Inn has played a leading role in shaping the budget hotel market and we believe 'hub' will do the same for a new generation of compact city centre hotels.

"'Hub' will work in tandem with Premier Inn, appealing to more price sensitive customers seeking quality accommodation in the heart of a city. It will enable us to broaden our customer appeal and further strengthen our competitive edge."
