'New Girl' season 5 spoilers: Megan Fox to fill in for Zooey Deschanel

"Transformers" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" star Megan Fox has been cast for "New Girl" season 5, where she will temporarily take Zooey Deschanel's spot now that the latter has taken maternity leave, reports TVLine. Deschanel gave birth to a baby girl in August.

According to the report, Fox will be making her debut on "New Girl" in the sixth episode as Deschanel has been able to film the first five episodes for the season. Fox will be playing Reagan, a pharmaceutical sales representative who comes in and rents Jess's room while the other has been sequestered for jury duty. She will be in for multiple episodes.

This won't be Fox' first foray into comedy. Before she made it big in the public's eyes with "Transformers," she was known for taking on comedic roles in television shows such as "Two and a Half Men" and "Hope & Faith." She was also a comedic presence in the film "This is 40."

"It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it," said executive producer Liz Meriwether. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since 'This is 40,' and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part - she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."

Fox' casting has also received negative feedback from many fans. Although the actress has a solid background in comedy, her filmography has been tainted by films that have received very negative reviews such as the aforementioned "Transformers" trilogy, "Jonah Hex" and "Jennifer's Body."

Another big change to "New Girl" is that season 5 won't be premiering this fall and has instead been pushed back to premiere in January 2016. According to TVLine, the network is calling the new schedule an "un-interrupted run of all-new episodes."
