'NBA Live 16' news: Game to give 'NBA 2K16' a 'run for its money'

 EA Sports

EA Sports' confidence in its newest basketball simulation "NBA Live 16" shows that the upcoming title will give 2K Sports' "NBA 2K16" a "run for its money." In its Twitter exchange with a fan, the company confirmed that the video game will be something to be excited about.

As Attack of the Fanboy noted, this wasn't the case in the previous iterations of the game. Harking back to the history of EA Sports about the franchise, "NBA Live 14" and "NBA Live 15" did not dazzle as much as its rival. The cancellation of "NBA Elite 11" and "NBA Live 13" only hinted trouble, too.

But it looks like EA Sports is determined to revive the franchise to its former glory. In a trailer for the game shown in the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015, the game studio revealed that it really is stepping up its game, with new features to boast.

"NBA Live 16" will introduce a face scanning feature called GameFaceHD, which lets users copy their likeness in the game and see themselves playing on the court with other basketball superstars. With a quick scan on the left and right side of the gamer's facial features, they're good to go.

EA Sports also boasts that the game will offer the most realistic basketball experience thus far, which was achieved by improving the visual quality and renderings of the basketball players and gameplay that allows freer movements such as passing and dribbling.

Freestyle Controls is back and a new shooting system was integrated in the game. Players can also enjoy better ball control and more natural responsiveness. There are plenty of new pass and catch animations in the game, too.

The standard edition of the "NBA Live 16" costs $60. Those who pre-order will also get a $10 Live Ultimate Team content with ten Pro Packs to be released across 10 weeks. The title will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on Sept. 29.
