Moto X 2016 release date: Lenovo's Motorola brand phase-out to affect new Moto X?

 CnBeta

It was reported previously that as Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility, the parent company will be phasing out the "Motorola" brand. Will this affect the supposed outing of a new Moto X this year?

According to observers, reportedly not, at least for the high-end Moto devices.

KnowYourMobile mentioned that Lenovo is phasing out the "Motorola" brand only for entry-level and mid-range devices, particularly smartphones. The parent company will go with its own "Vibe" tag for low-spec and mid-range mobile products, and will dub its premium flagships "Moto." This means that as a flagship iteration, the fourth generation of the Moto X will still be released, even possibly this year.

The industry follower added that as a sort of confirmation that the Moto brand is still alive, a supposed leak of the 2016 Moto X floated online. Reportedly, the new leak showed an image of the new Moto X with an all-metal, unibody design. The new flagship iteration also looks to sport a sleeker and slimmer profile than its predecessors.

Although the supposed leak did not come with any listed specs, speculations continue to appear online on what the 2016 Moto X will feature.

According to Pocket-Lint, should parent company Lenovo go with some specs of the previous lineups, fans should see at least a Quad HD display, much like the Moto X Force and Moto X Play.

Meanwhile, since the Moto X lineup is a premium one, fans should also expect the new iteration to carry the new Snapdragon 820 processor, partnered with at least 3 GB of RAM. In addition, Moto devices are known to have long battery life, and the new Moto X should feature a more-than-decent 3,000-mAh or more for the new iteration, as well as a fingerprint scanner and improved camera assembly.
