The Major League Baseball insider announced that the team was interested in Iglesias but that it was also "performing due diligence" in choosing among others. However, he did not hint which other teams Twins was eyeing.
The team was rumored to have been looking for a better bullpen and was reportedly taking a risk by cashing in on some agents. With this, Twins clearly wanted to have someone that could boost the team for the next season, even if it means having to spend.
It was not mentioned when the talks had begun or if the inquiry had gone fruitful, but details are expected to be further disclosed in the following weeks. Reds, which ranked fifth in the NL Central, had yet to comment if it was open to trading the 27-year-old closer.
Twins' ranking might be impressive, but their bullpen could still get better. Their reliever placed 22<sup>nd in a 4.40 ERA and ninth in saves with 42.
Iglesias is a strong contender, as he finished off with 28 saves and a 2.49 ERA, though Reds had lost 94 games. The closer is set to receive $14.5 million for three years. Other reports say that Iglesias will be receiving $2.8 million in 2018 if he opts for arbitration, but if not, he is expected to receive $4.5 million next year, $5 million in 2019, and $5 million in 2020.
