MLB trade news 2015: Arizona Diamondbacks sent pitchers Bronson Arroyo, Touki Toussaint to Braves for Phil Gosselin

As the MLB regular season continues, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Phil Gosselin after sending pitchers Bronson Arroyo and 2014 first round pick Touki Toussaint to the Atlanta Braves in a trade deal.

Arroyo joined the D-backs as a free agent after eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and is in the second year of his two-year pact with the club.

"It is more of what we are trying to do. The money is definitely important. We said that we are going to try to do what we can to promote our young pitchers but also give ourselves a chance to make some savings so that we can have an opportunity to do things at a later date," Arizona general manager Dave Stewart stated according to ESPN.

Stewart added that Toussaint needed to be included for the deal to materialize.

The 19-year-old was a key factor since Braves general manager John Coppolella said they wanted to pick him at last year's draft but he was no longer available.

"He was a guy we really liked in the 2014 draft. We picked 31, and he was long gone by then. We had him in our top 10 of our 2014 draft board. Obviously, Toussaint is a huge, huge piece for the future," Coppolella said according to ESPN.

ESPN reported that deal was accomplished on Toussaint's birthday which was also the anniversary of his signing with Arizona.

Arroyo was not surprised he got dealt but was surprised he was traded while he was still injured and added that he would have wanted to give back more to the Diamondbacks after they rewarded him with a two-year, $23.5 million deal but injury prevented him to.

Meanwhile, Gosselin was placed on the 15-day disabled list last month due to a fractured left thumb.

The 26-year-old, who is expected to return after four weeks as ESPN reported, had 20 games this seasons hitting .325 with four doubles and two RBIs.
