Michael Schumacher health update: F1 champion driver showing 'encouraging signs'

Former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has provided some heartening information about Formula One champion Michael Schumacher with regard to his road to recovery.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the 61-year-old former motorsport engineer and Formula One team principal said that "There are encouraging signs and we are all praying every day that we see more of them."

He did not want to provide more information beyond that, but he did warn Schumacher's fans that not all reports about his health condition are to be believed.

"All I would say is there is a lot of speculation about Michael's condition, most it's wrong and we just pray and hope every day that we continue to see some progress."

Back in September, Schumacher's lawyer, Felix Damm, told a German court that the racer "cannot walk," contrary to the report of the German publication, Die Bunte, who stated that Schumacher can walk "a couple of steps."

"Such speculation is irresponsible, because given the seriousness of his injuries, his privacy is very important. Unfortunately they also give false hopes to many involved people," Schumacher's manager said that them via BBC.

Schumacher's family have initiated a media blackout with regards to the rehabilitation of the seven-time F1 champion, but they are constantly thankful for the prayers that fans of the racer send their way.

The German racer met a freak accident at the French Alps back in December 2013 where he sustained a serious head injury. He was in a coma for six months after that.

Schumacher was then transferred to a hospital in Grenoble for further treatment before he was eventually brought back to his home in Gland by the shores of Lake Geneva, where he currently recuperates with his family by his side.

A couple of months back, Italian priest Don Sergio Mantovani said via Wheels24 that "what we saw as a driver and certainly what is true still today is that Michael is a fighter."
