The Miami Marlins will need to try winning without slugger Giancarlo Stanton who will be missing 4-6 weeks of action after sustaining a wrist injury in a 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday.

Stanton, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, suffered a broken hamate bone in his left wrist Friday and went through surgery Sunday.

In the sixth inning of the loss to the Dodgers, Stanton initially hurt his wrist with a swing and a miss and had a swollen hand after according to ESPN.

The 25-year-old said the pain worsened as the game continued and was hurting "where he grips the bat."

ESPN added that Stanton was clearly in pain during his swing in the ninth inning and called the at-bat "the icing on the cake."

Stanton said Friday according to Yahoo Sports, "On a swing, my bat dug into my hand a little bit. It didn't feel the greatest. So just get it checked out and then know for sure what is going on."

Meanwhile, Marlins manager Dan Jennings said Stanton's surgery Sunday was a success.

"From everything we've got, the surgery was a success and now you just go through the healing process and the rehab process to have him back," Jennings stated according to ESPN.

Stanton who is having a splendid year for the Marlins despite a 31-46 record by the club already has 27 homers and 67 RBIs this season.

The injury will also make Stanton miss the All-Star Game which will be held on July 14 at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Possible replacements for Stanton are left fielders Ichiro Suzuki and Cole Gillespie who was called from Triple-A New Orleans.

Marlins relief pitchers A.J. Ramos and Mike Dunn shared their dismay regarding Stanton's injury.

"It's very disappointing to see with the work he puts in. You see the year he's having, so you're definitely disappointed and you feel bad for him," Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Ramos said in a report by ESPN.

In the report, Ramos said he had dinner with Stanton Friday following their game and the right fielder was clearly injured.

Meanwhile Dunn said according to ESPN, "It's extremely disappointing. He's one of the best players in the game. It's a big blow.

"You can't really replace that kind of guy and the numbers (he produces). You just hope someone can come in and help out a little bit," he added.
