'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' news: microtransactions explained before Sept. 1 release

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Konami

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" will have microtransactions in the game but they won't exactly be the kind that most gamers complain about. In an interview with "The Angry Joe Show," Konami community manager Robert Peeler explained how these microtransactions work and why they won't be bothersome.

"There are some microtransactions involved in the game," Peeler explained. "What it does is allow players to finish the efforts they make in the game a little bit quicker, a little bit differently. Different from unlocking it which you can also do. It's completely optional."

Peeler continued to explain that the microtransactions have been placed only to help those who experience difficulty getting through the game or for newcomers to the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise who might need some help  to get through the more complex portions of the game.

He then confirmed that everything in the game can be unlocked without spending a single cent. Gamers can spend some cash to unlock tools and other aspects to make things easier and quicker or they can just ignore all the microtransactions and unlock these aspects naturally.

When asked about the future of the franchise now that Hideo Kojima would no longer be working for Konami and would no longer be involved with the franchise, he was a little less clear but still reaffirmed that "Metal Gear Solid" would continue even without Kojima at the helm.

Peeler stated that the brand is an important franchise for Konami and that they wouldn't abandon the series just because Kojima would be gone. According to Peeler, they have already begun work on creating new material for future games in the series. Despite this, fans consider "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" as the end of the series.

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" will be released worldwide on Sept. 1.
