'Madam Secretary' season 2 episode 14: Elizabeth deals with international issues

 CBS

"Madam Secretary" season 2 episode 13 is highly considered to be an emotionally heavy episode and it now appears that episode 14, titled "Left of the Boom," will allow the show to go back to its established tone as it focuses on Elizabeth (Tea Leoni) dealing with not one but two international issues at the same time.

According to the official synopsis from TV Guide, Elizabeth will be spending the majority of the episode overseas in a currently unannounced Eastern European country. She'll be busy tracking down culprits responsible for the theft of a supply of uranium, the component required in making nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Despite having her hands full with the heist in Eastern Europe, Elizabeth will also be dealing with a problem in Saudi Arabia. According to the synopsis, Elizabth will have to prevent the dismantling of an important arms deal but complications arise when two American teenage girls are caught attempting to join a terrorist group in the country.

Cartermatt reports that this return to stories focusing on strong political issues is a true return to form for "Madam Secretary," particularly after the events of episode 13, as it will remind the audience why they've continued watching the series in the first place.

Going on a very dark or heart-rending run in any series can be good for dramatic effect but it should not be used on a regular basis unless that is the exact kind of tone that the series is known for.

However, an interesting note is that the episode also appears to be only the first part of a two-episode arc that may either address issues from the past or will establish problems for Elizabeth in the future. This is more apparent in the title of the episode following this as episode 15 is labeled "Right of the Boom."

"Madam Secretary" season 2 episode 14 airs this Feb. 14.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
