Of the three Marvel series showcased on Netflix, the one that made the most impact this year is "Luke Cage," which is actually kind of surprising because "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" were mostly favored in terms of advertising and hype. But after the first season, the show that stars Mike Colter in the titular role got the best reviews of the three, making it arguably the most intriguing prospect for next year.

And yes, Netflix is giving season 2 a go; while this certainly is good news for avid viewers of Power Man, the biggest question is how will the showrunners keep up with the success of season 1. Can they emulate or even surpass it? The success of the first season is quite similar to many other superhero-themed TV shows, but for the most part, they end up losing steam in the next couple of seasons due to the pressure of keeping up with the high ratings of the first. For series creator Cheo Hodari Coker, keeping "Luke Cage" on top is the ultimate challenge.

Meanwhile, much has been rumored and speculated about the changes in season 2, including the introduction of new villains. According to Movie News Guide, there are a couple of prospects, including a couple of returnees and a new one. The same publication said that Shades (Theo Rossi), who was introduced in the first offering, will be making his return and the objective is the same — to take control of the city of Harlem. Likewise, Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) is set to return for season 2, but this time, she's bent on handing out revenge. Finally, a new villain is expected to debut in the person of Luke's stepbrother, Diamondback (Erick LaRay Harvey), but he will be transforming himself into a completely different form. If the comic book source material is to be referenced, that villain is likely to be Warhawk.

No official release date for "Luke Cage" season 2 but it is expected to arrive after the premiere of another comic book series, "Marvel's The Defenders."
