LG G6 release date, specs: LG may unveil smartphone in February 2017; April release likely

The LG G5 was a great smartphone. Well, it still is. But it may be time for an upgrade because industry insiders believe LG is planning to unveil the G6 early next year. Several sources say LG is going to make the announcement at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain next year. The annual trade show is going to start on Feb. 27, 2017, so be on the lookout when that day arrives.

PC Advisor believes the announcement may happen a day earlier on Feb. 26, because Samsung is allegedly planning to unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus on the same day. It sounds like LG is planning to challenge Samsung by introducing their own flagship smartphone. Reports say the G6 may come out in April, two months after the unveiling.

So, a new phone should come with improvements over its predecessor, right? Sources say the G6 will have a Snapdragon 830 processor, at least 4 GB of random access memory (RAM), 32 GB of internal storage space, a dual camera setup, and USB Type-C ports. The smartphone will allegedly be running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

It is rumored that the G6 may also feature a wireless charging system and an iris scanner. The scanner is supposedly integrated into the front-facing camera. Reports also say the smartphone will have a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display, which may potentially have an upgrade to 4K. Furthermore, the device may feature an OLED panel.

According to reports, the G6 may have an aluminum body just like the G5; however, it may feature a glass rear. The smartphone is believed to be priced at $650.

It should be noted that LG has yet to announce that the G6 is being developed. Until they make a confirmation, all reports concerning the smartphone are rumors at best, so readers are advised to take everything with a grain of salt.
