'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date not confirmed due to Square Enix 'rule?'

Kingdom Hearts III Disney/Square-Enix

One of the most popular franchises in gaming is "Kingdom Hearts" by Square Enix, and with the reports of "Kingdom Hearts III" being already in the pipeline reportedly confirmed, fans can't wait for the upcoming title to release. However, ever since the game's announcement, a roll-out date has yet to be confirmed for the title.

According to Master Herald, developer Square Enix seems to have a rule that can give fans a clue on when to expect a certain title. Reportedly, the Square Enix "rule" was confirmed by none other than Hajime Tabata, director of another popular Square Enix franchise, "Final Fantasy."

Allegedly, Tabata said that for "Final Fantasy XV," a confirmed release date has yet to be made since a roll-out date can only be determined when the title only gets to a specific point in development. "Final Fantasy XV" itself got its release period (set for this year) fairly recently, and even then, only a general release window can be made, not the specific release date.

Tabata did not elaborate on when this can be expected, if the development of the game is already half-way through, or if the release date can only be determined toward the later part of the development.

The industry follower predicted that it may be the latter, since "Kingdom Hearts III" was announced more than three years ago, and a release date has yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, beyond "Kingdom Hearts III," fans may expect the franchise to continue on. According to NowGamer, in a recent interview, director Tetsuya Nomura commited to franchise titles even after the release of "Kingdom hearts III."

Nomura stated, "The discussion of the end of 'Kingdom Hearts' has never come up between me and Disney, so I don't know what their intentions are. But while creating 'Kingdom Hearts,' with each generation I think to myself 'This should be something that can't be accomplished by just Disney.' It has to be something uniquely Kingdom Hearts. So it's a matter of how long can I keep creating for 'Kingdom Hearts!'"
