'Justice League: Part One' news: J.K. Simmons talks his version of Commissioner Gordon

J.K. Simmons as seen in Whiplash Sony Pictures Classics

"Justice League: Part One" will not just be about the adventures of the superheroes such as Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) but also of the regular people trying to find their place and survive, such as Commisioner James Gordon, set to be played by Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons.

Speaking to Collider, Simmons revealed that he does plan on reading the comic books as his primary source for research, although he hasn't begun this process given that he still has two other films to do first and because production for "Justice League" is still many months from today.

However, Simmons did state that he did see the other "Batman" films and did get an impression of who Commissioner Gordon is and what kind of character he is, although he intends on sticking to the comic books for inspiration instead of simply playing off what previous actors already did.

"I'm not planning on going back and watching any of the other films. I'm just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there," Simmons explained. "I take this from my days doing theater. If I was doing a musical, I would never listen to the cast album because I wanted to do my version of something."

The actor did acknowledge that there may be similarities between his performance and the performances of Pat Hingle and Gary Oldman, given that they all build on what was in the comic books, but he will be doing something that is definitely his own take on the character.

When comparing Commissioner Gordon with the previous comic book character he portrayed, J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy, Simmons explained that the mustache is the only similarity between them given how vastly different their worlds are.

"Justice League: Part One" opens in theaters on Nov. 17, 2017.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
