Jessica Jones Season 2 release date, spoilers: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders coming first

For its sophomore season, Netflix's Jessica Jones will be giving other characters their time to shine.

In an interview with Nerdist, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said when the show returns to Netflix for its second season, they will shift the focus away from the main character, played by Krysten Ritter to develop secondary characters to add levels to the already compelling storyline.

"You have to earn secondary character stories. You have to flesh them out enough so they can eventually carry stories of their own, which is very much what season 1 was about," she explained.

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rosenberg explained that they have had to pull back on a lot of scenes for the series in order to protect the Marvel brand, especially when it comes to content that involves sex and violence. She said that Marvel's censorship policy prohibits them from using swear or curse words, especially for Jessica Jones.

Luckily, she credits their talented cast for managing to convey the messages she wants to put in the script that they really don't need the words and the graphic nudity to get the thoughts across.

"Sometimes I would be like, 'Please just let me put one!'Never. But what's funny is that people said, 'Wait — she didn't say f—? I could have sworn she did!'" she said, adding: "Casting Jessica Jones — you gotta believe she can kick ass...That's why Ritter was always very close to the top of the list. I knew she could at least deliver a dry line, and then I saw her run in Breaking Bad and I'm like, 'Oh, she's a dramatic actress too.' She's phenomenal."

While the second season of the series has been confirmed, Den of Geek recently reported that the release date would have to wait until Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Defenders series have come out. Luke Cage comes out this fall but if Jessica Jones needs to wait for two more series, then it may be 2018 before she continues her story again.
