Jennifer Lawrence recounts appalling Hollywood experience

The Elle's Women in Hollywood, held on Oct. 16, Monday, was graced by celebrities in their elegant attires that had everyone looking. But the talk of the town was Jennifer Lawrence because of the speech she delivered that night.

The "Passengers" star shared how the film industry had "trapped" her and made her feel embarrassed, especially when she was still starting out. She revealed an unpleasant encounter with a producer who asked her to do a lineup with other women, with only paste-ons to protect their privates. After the line-up, the producer reportedly made some derogatory remarks about her figure. "The female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet," Lawrence said.

The 27-year-old actress also disclosed that after the "degrading" experience, she talked with another producer regarding the diet given to her. The official then said that he was confused why people were bashing her for her weight when he considered Lawrence "fuckable." Lawrence went on to say that she could not do anything about the harassment since she was young and she wanted a career.

"I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt like I had to for my career," the "Winter's Bone" star said. She also went on to divulge that after getting a big break with her starring roles in the "Hunger Games" films, she felt that she finally had the power and capacity "to say no."

Hollywood is perceived to be made up of glitter and gold, but several accounts of celebrities revealed how the industry can also destroy them. One recent example would be the Harvey Weinstein controversy that had celebrities speaking out their own story, accusing the film producer of sexual assault. Celebrities who came out were Kate Beckinsale, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow, among many others.
