'Into the Badlands' season 2: Sunny's redemption at hand

 AMC

"Into the Badlands" has proven to be a solid series on AMC. However, the show has not yet been officially renewed for a second season. Despite this, there are already talks about the plot for season 2 and according to series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the season will focus on Sunny's (Daniel Wu) path to redemption.

In season 1, Sunny claimed that after stabbing Quinn (Marton Csokas) there would be no more killing for him. Sunny declared that he would officially end his career as a Clipper but it appears there will still be room for violence in season 2 now that he's a prisoner and that Veil (Madeleine Mantock) has been captured in the Badlands.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Gough explained that a person with the history and career as Sunny's is sure to have a dark and heavy soul, particularly due to the number of people he's killed before. However, Gough did explain that despite his history of violence Veil believes that there is room for him to change.

"I think Veil does want to believe in the best in Sunny," Gough stated. "Even with her doubts and everything Quinn planted, she wants to believe that he can change and I think she's the light in his life that can give him hope that he can change."

While Veil is going to be the key to Sunny's redemption she is also going to be Sunny's main reason for returning to a life of violence. In the report Millar explains that season 2 will show a lot more of the Badlands and that Sunny will journey all the way back to save Veil.

However, going back to Veil won't immediately solve Sunny's problems and it is suggested that Sunny's decision to move away from violence will become a major theme throughout the series.

"Redemption is a process," Millar said, "and hopefully Sunny will have many seasons of television to redeem himself."
