Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien made a major coaching move promoting quarterbacks coach George Godsey as the team's offensive coordinator making the announcement Monday at the team's organized team activities.

"I'll start off by just officially announcing that George Godsey is the offensive coordinator. I'm sure you guys at some point will have a chance to spend some time with him," O'Brien announced Monday according to the team's website.

"He'll be the offensive coordinator. It's really not too much different then what he did last year, it's just his got the title," he added.

Godsey played for O'Brien at Georgia Tech and they first worked together with the New England Patriots when the Texans head coach brought him in as an offensive assistant in 2011.

O'Brien then left to be the head coach at Penn State while Godsey remained with the Patriots.

When O'Brien returned in the NFL to be the Texans' head coach, he saw Godsey's growth and development and asked him to be the team's quarterbacks coach.

Last season O'Brien gave Godsey the responsibility of running the Texans' offensive meetings just like what happened to him when he was with the Patriots, according to a report by ESPN.

"Very bright guy. Works really hard at the game studying not only what we're doing but studying the tendencies around the rest of the league on both sides of the ball," O'Brien said about Godsey according to ESPN.

"He along with the other guys on this staff, he has a lot of good input in the staff meetings. ... I think the players respect the type of teacher that he is and how demanding he is," he added.

The Texans missed the playoffs in O'Brien's first year as head coach last season but did a better job than their previous campaign during the 2013 season where they only won two games.
