Hope UK equips church to address drug and alcohol-related harm

Hope UK has recently launched its new website with a user-friendly resource for church leaders and workers who recognise the need to do something about drug and alcohol related harm in their communities.

The website www.hopeuk.org/church offers ideas for incorporating drug awareness into worship and mid-week meetings, including drama, sermon and Bible Study suggestions.

With alcohol especially causing so many personal, social and health problems throughout the UK, it provides activities for children, young people, parents and other adults that can help a local church serve its community in this area.

The pastoral section of the website provides support for leaders and others faced with the needs of people with alcohol or drug problems, including links to other organisations that can help. It also includes an action plan for churches and a sample church drug policy.

The resources section highlights training opportunities that are available (including Hope UK’s voluntary Drug Educator Training Programme) as well as an exploration of the relationship between theology and Christian social action in the area of drugs and alcohol.
