An independent game developer is said to be working on a title that's rather revolutionary as it is said that the main character will go on a mission to battle the demons and monsters that lurk inside her mind.

"Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice," the upcoming single-player video game, is developed by Ninja Theory. According to reports, it will be based on the Celtic lore and it will focus on the journey of a young girl named Senua as she tries to battle the voices that are trying to crush her will to move on in life.

The game developer also pointed out that the game will be produced and distributed autonomously though the quality of the upcoming title can be compared to any of the current AAA releases.

Since the yet to be released game will have a protagonist experiencing mental illness, Ninja Theory stated that they prepared by talking to "people who have experience of mental health difficulties," as well as medical personnel who specialize in the said field. In doing such, the developer gained a broader view of the condition and was able to portray Senua's condition as "both accurate and sensitive."

That being said, the game maker focused mainly on the voices to be incorporated in the game as these will be somewhat personified in the game and eventually become Senua's antagonists later on. The team used a special system in capturing such sound effects that will make players feel and hear that such voices are heard from one's mind.

Would-be players can actually check the game developer's so-called "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" development diary on their YouTube channel to see how the game was made.

Meanwhile, Ninja Theory has yet to announce a definite date for the game's release.
