'Han Solo' release date, news: Alden Ehrenreich shares thoughts on Chewbacca, casting of Donald Glover

The "Han Solo" spin-off film is slowly taking shape over the past few months. First, actor Alden Ehrenreich was brought in to play the young scruffy-looking nerf herder that Harrison Ford portrayed in the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Then, Donald Glover joined the cast of the film as Lando Calrissian. In a recent interview, Ehrenreich confirmed that another beloved character is going to be in the spin-off film.

"I can say that Chewbacca's in the film, although I know that's not a huge spoiler," he told Variety.

Well, nobody's really surprised that Chewbacca's going to be part of the movie. After all, Han and his Wookiee sidekick have been an inseparable pair since the first "Star Wars" film. The first meeting between the two will probably be shown, but the younger Chewbacca won't look that different.

"He's as much younger as I am in the film. So, I think he's like 190 — or something — years old. I don't think there's a huge growth spurt for him from 190 to 210, so he's probably about the same height," he joked.

Chewbacca already made an appearance in "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith," and he looked all grown-up by then. Right now, it isn't known yet if Peter Mayhew will reprise the role. It would be nice to see the two bickering again.

While Ehrenreich was careful not to reveal too much about the film, he did have nice things to say about his co-star Glover.

"I'm allowed to say that I'm really excited about Donald Glover's casting. I think he's going to be great in the role because he's such a talented and interesting guy," he said.

Interestingly, Ehrenreich said that he hasn't met Ford yet, but he would love to do so. Maybe Ford can give him some tips on how to play the character if the two meet.

The "Han Solo" spin-off film is scheduled to come out on May 25, 2018.
