James Gunn is preparing to film the sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy," and last week, the director took to Twitter to answer a few questions about the upcoming movie and even gave some updates about the status of pre-production.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Gunn revealed that they had their first table read for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" on Tuesday, saying that he was even more excited for the sequel after sitting down with the cast.
"Our returning cast is even better & our new cast is amazing," he tweeted. When asked how much of the script that the cast has read through will make it to cinemas, Gunn said that "almost all of it" will be in the film and that the movie will start shooting in a few weeks.
It was previously reported that Chris Pratt will be returning as Star Lord, as well as Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Sean Gunn, Benicio del Toro, Pom Klementieff, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. While the full cast has yet to be announced, Gunn said that the announcement will happen "very soon."
Gunn was also asked whether he has cast Star Lord's father and the main villain for the sequel. The director simply replied "Yes" but did not name any names. Previously, it was reported that Kurt Russell was in talks to play Star Lord's mysterious father, while Variety (via Screenrant) reported that Matthew McConaughey recently turned down the villain role in the upcoming film.
The director confirmed on the micro blogging site that Tyler Bates will be returning to work on the musical score for the movie and that Marvel has given him a lot of freedom to do what he wants to do on the film.
"As I've said a million times before Marvel hasn't given me a single non-budgetary restriction on Vol. 2. I love them," he tweeted.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is slated for release in May 2017.
