Fans have long been asking whether or not Star-Lord aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his father will cross paths in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." It turns out they will, and it only took one word from director James Gunn to trigger an uproar from fans who have long been waiting for answers.

When Gunn greeted Pratt on his 36th birthday via Facebook, one fan asked the director if Star-Lord will finally enjoy the gift of meeting his father in the film. The helmer simply replied "YES," which made fans all the more excited about the sequel. Now that Daddy Quill is confirmed to be coming, fans are playing the big guessing game regarding who his father is and which actor will portray him.

Movie Pilot listed several characters who could be Peter Quill's father. The first one is The Collector, one of the oldest living creatures in all of the cosmos and one of the firsts to evolve. This evolution could have spawned him Peter Quill.

Although Gunn was very vocal about changing things up in the comics for the film, most notably details about Star-Lord's family background, some still believe that J'Son — or at least a variation of him — may end up being his father in the movie as he is in the comics.

There are other speculations that Thanos, who is said to be the big baddie in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," will turn out to be Star-Lord's father. This, as Movie Pilot says, will be a very big nod to "Star Wars." In fact, the site called the franchise the next "Star Wars."

As for the actor to play the part, it is heavily speculated that Al Pacino will have something to do with it. This rumor was instigated by Gunn's interest in working with the Oscar-winning actor, and fans may see how this plays out in the upcoming superhero movie.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.
